faith. food. learning. fun.

Join together with your fellow SEVENTH, EIGHTH, and NINTH grade friends to go deeper in your faith.  Learn about God and God's people.  Discover more about yourself and your faith.

Confirmation classes are held on Wednesdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM from September through May.  We gather for dinner and conversation at 6:00 PM and then move into class time.  It is a three year program.  We spend time learning and studying biblical stories and people, and exploring big questions of faith like “Who is God?” “What do I really believe?” “What is a Lutheran anyway?” and more.

What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is a 3-year program for students in 7th–9th grade. Confirmation will help you to feel more at home in the church and teach you ways to be active in the different ministries of the church. Each year will be a different overall topic: Old Testament, New Testament, and Luther’s Small Catechism/Big Faith Questions.

This year, Immanuel Lutheran Church and Calvary Lutheran Church will continue working together in our confirmation program. Students will have the opportunity to learn, worship, serve, and build relationships with other students from both congregations. We will meet regularly throughout the school year, with confirmation activities and lessons taking place at both churches, as well as opportunities to gather with other area ELCA churches.

From Immanuel, our confirmation teaching team will be Pastor Kate Mensing, Emily Hartog and Jeff Stensrud, who will work together to lead lessons, activities, discussions, and other confirmation experiences throughout the year.

Confirmation will teach you how your faith can be active in your daily life. It teaches you about the promises that God has made to you and how you can depend on those promises during your lives. At the end of the Confirmation program you will have a deeper, more personal and honest idea about what you believe and who God is. You will learn how to live out that faith in the church and world.

Here is how we are going to do that. We are going to study Scripture, Baptism, Communion, and the teachings of Martin Luther. We are going to learn through our actions as well as through worship and doing acts of service for others. You will have the chance to talk about what you are learning about your faith at home with your parents and at church with your pastor, teachers, mentors, and each other.

Confirmation is part of a lifelong journey of faith, filled with new questions and answers, new discoveries, new relationships, new responsibilities, and new possibilities. But know that confirmation is just one step along a much larger journey of your life. God is with you along the way, each step of the way. Confirmation is not the end, nor the beginning. Rather, Confirmation is a tool that helps you along your lifelong adventure of living out your Christian faith.
